In 2020, when the pandemic shut down theaters and in-person productions, Secrets of Harridge House was born as an alternative creative outlet for actors and writers. Created by John Adams and Scott Young, the series was originally inspired by Dark Shadows but evolved into a Lovecraftian mystery-drama by its final season.
Initially, three entities collaborated on production:
- KNVC 95.1 FM, Carson City’s community radio station
- Proscenium Players, Inc., a local theater company
- Diaz Media Group, Young’s production company
By the series' conclusion, KNVC and Diaz Media Group were the sole producers.
Production & Sound Design
The show was recorded remotely using Zencastr, allowing actors from different locations to participate. Scheduling was the biggest challenge, but technical difficulties were minimal thanks to the platform.
Post-production was handled by Joe Bly, who served as Sound Designer and Editor for the show’s entire run. If he couldn't source the right sound effects, he created them from scratch, ensuring an immersive audio experience.
The show’s music was composed by Mike & Linda Badinger, with the series finale song, "You Are an Innocent," written by John Adams and performed by Georgia Maestro.
Broadcast & Distribution
Secrets of Harridge House premiered on October 30, 2020, and concluded exactly two years later on October 30, 2022. Each episode was pre-recorded—there were no live broadcasts—allowing the team to stay three to four weeks ahead of air dates. However, as the series finale approached, increased technical demands made last-minute edits a necessity.
Themes & Tone
The series blended gothic mystery, supernatural horror, and family drama, centering on the Power of Three—three siblings, three golden feathers, three seasons, and even three villainous families.
Notable Cast & Writers
The series featured a mix of emerging talent and established actors, including:
- Patricia Conolly (Broadway legend)
- David Sheinkopf (Falcon Crest, Newsies)
- Hutch Dano (Disney Channel’s Zeke and Luther)
- James Earl Cox III (indie cult film favorite)
- Morrison James (popular Australian actor)
